Americanism

Mission: The Americanism committee seeks to Inspire love of country and good citizenship through patriotic observances, flag etiquette, and civic instruction in schools. The Americanization of Immigrants, community service, and youth activities such as boy scouts, oratorical Contest, school award medals, and American legion boy’s state and girl’s state.

  • Duties:
    • Select Post American Education Week Committee Prior to September 15
    • Contact local school officials to plan a coordinated meeting.
    • work out a cooperative program with local churches, service clubs, civic and social organizations
    • Request an Americanism education week proclamation from the Mayor
    • arrange for an outstanding veterans day program
    • Arrange for school visits by American Legion
    • Request radio and television coverage
    • Arrange for local papers and business firms to carry newsworthy features and releases
    • Organize banquets dinners, and rallies
    • Promote attendance at an open house and at other school events
    • plan early to secure Americanism and educational literature for distribution during American education week
    • contact national emblem sales to purchase related materials.
    • Create Schedule of events

Two Americanism programs that make differences in the lives of military personnel and their families are Operation Comfort Warriors (OCW) and the Family Support Network. The Family Support Network is designed to provide volunteer assistance for military families during deployments. OCW is dedicated to meeting the needs of wounded and ill military personnel and veterans by providing them with comfort items and recreational activities not usually supplied by the government.
